The call was unexpected. He went because he had no reason to suspect. He had kept everything quiet, hidden. Or so he believed.
His friend confronted him. Embezzlement, fraud, tax evasion. The list went on. He felt his chest go tight. Jumbled thoughts clambered through his brain, smashing and tangling into each other. He couldn’t think straight. What would she say? What will she think?
His hand clenched unconsciously into a fist.
“I have no choice. I have to turn you in.” A note of sadness overshadowed the words. He regretted his duty.
This wasn’t an option. Everything went black.
This post is part of Velvet Verbosity’s 100 Word Challenge. This week the word is Unconscious. This is another continuation of my 100 Word story. Read the first two pieces here and here

How unique, and how tragic. There is so much more in this story, and that’s wonderful. Thank you.
I’m hooked – when is the next instalment? Adding you to my rss feed. Thanks also for dropping by Kangaroos of the Scrubby Bush. And you’re right she wouldn’t like Vancouver’s weather!
That pic & those words… great job!
Very rich scene for only 100 words! Great job!
I love it.
This was exquisite! I love the few words that speak volumes.
Very intense. This makes me want to know more, to know how ‘she’ does react.
Oooooo this dragged me right in.
What a great post!
