All About Nature

I got excited for a moment. I saw that little tab with “About” on it and thought, “Finally, someone can tell me what I am all about!!”

Sadly, ’twas not the case. I guess I have to figure it out on my own after all. So here goes:

I am a writer. I obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from Simon Fraser University with a major in English and a minor in History so I figure I should try to apply my education to my passion. I will regularly post short stories and excerpts of longer works to get a feel for how they might be received. Honest comments and critique are welcome because you can’t improve without knowing what the problems might be.

I’m married with two adorable, yet at times devious, little girls. My oldest is currently 4 years old and NEVER STOPS TALKING so for the sake of privacy she will be known as Little Miss Chatterbox on the blog (LMC). My younger daughter is 2 years old. She is Trouble with a capital T so she’ll be known as Double Trouble (DT). My husband will simply be The Husband. Yes, I know. So clever  Since this place is supposed to be about “me” (wonderful glorious Meeeeeeeeeee!) I’m going to stay away from the cute family stories.

Our family is vegetarian. I’ll be honest; sometimes I wish I weren’t simply for the convenience. There is SO MUCH more to eat when you are willing to eat meat…but I couldn’t imagine going back to it. The girls will be able to make their own choice on what they wish to eat when they are older but I hope they choose to stay veggie. We have recently been having discussions about meat and why our family is vegetarian with LMC…I think this conversation ranks right up there with “the sex talk” for difficulty. One of the most challenging aspects of being a parent is explaining to your children why you choose to do something that is, unfortunately, outside the norm of society.

In case I ever end up famous and become a Trivial Pursuit question: my favorite toy as a child was My Little Pony and I love Applejack!

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoy what you see and become a regular visitor.

Oh, and are you wondering about the “Nature” thing? It’s a nickname from high school. I like it so I used it.

  1. Your comments on my blog are much appreciated. I am excited to read your work, too. Keep up the good work of raising your children to think for themselves and not strive to always do what others consider the “normal thing.”

I have two daughters – 15 and 7. Anytime my girls want something and they try to tell me that “everyone else is doing it, has one, etc.” I tell them to come back to me with a better reason why they should have what they want. We don’t have to be like everyone else. Much easier said than done. For me, too.

  2. HEY! I KNOW YOU!
    Sort of, anyway. ;)

Thanks for linking-up with Story Dam. I always find it funny how people can pour their heart out on a page for a story, yet have difficulty doing an “about me” page. So weird. Anyway, looking forward to seeing you around!

  3. Stopped by to enjoy your Blog…love what you are doing! Thanks for checking out our blog too.

I’ll be back to visit. I haven’t had the chance to explore your site enough yet; wondering if you share your vegetarian recipes? :D

  6. Been bouncing around your blog and have enjoyed reading your posts. I hope you continue with Wishes and Outcomes. And as full time professional designer turned part time newbie writer, I was happy to learn about India Ink. I will have to check them out. Love your All About Me! Loved the Secret Garden and yes…you should definitely start a Balsamic Vinegar Support Group.

I love this blog! You mix literary writing style with nature and being a mom; this is my favorite kind of blog! My two girls are the same age as yours and it gives me a lot to write about. I am looking forward to receiving emails with your posts in my Inbox! Thanks :)

  10. I think this might be one of the best introductions to an “About me” that I’ve read in a long time.

  11. I just found your site from a comment you left at The Hack Novelist. I enjoyed skipping around on here and reading several of your posts. I’m sure I’ll be following up as I enjoy meeting other aspiring writers. I’ve recently gotten back into my passion for writing ever since I started my blog and it’s always fun to read others.

  12. Hi,
I found your site (honestly, I can’t even remember how — sorry), and
I just wanted to tell you that I love your writing about Elle. You’ve
officially gotten me to “waste” my entire morning on you. I can’t wait
to read more — really hope you end up finishing it.

Comments and Critique ALWAYS welcome!!
